Indiana Children and Nature Network (ICAN)
Indiana is joining the national movement to get children outdoors by starting our own regional campaign, the Indiana Children and Nature Network (ICAN).
This program seeks to inspire collaborative efforts to encourage children spending time in nature. The project is an initiative of the Environmental Education Association of Indiana (EEAI), a group of outdoor and environmental educators from around the state. ICAN will bring together government, businesses, nonprofits, academia, individuals, and families to impact a societal change that allows and encourages children to spend more time in nature.
Mission: To connect children, families and communities to nature so they can receive the physical, emotional and intellectual benefits of reconnecting with nature while building a lifelong love of nature. We will do this by:
· Raising awareness of the physical, emotional, spiritual health benefits of connecting children with nature;
· Promoting unstructured play and time in nature for children and adults;
· Engaging a diverse network of people and facilitate collaborations.
